People around the world are ringing in 2011, but drinking and driving is a common and deadly problem after the stroke of midnight every New Year. That's why law enforcement officers throughout Central Florida will be out in full force, patrolling the roads on New Year's Eve. The Florida Highway Patrol said it's putting more troopers out along the interstates and state roads, looking for people driving drunk. So before you hit the road for your New Year's Eve bash, authorities want you to have a plan to get home safely. If you plan on drinking, but can't get a designated driver and don't want to pay for a cab or public transportation, AAA and Budweiser have a program to get you home safely at no charge. It's called "Tow to Go." Here's how it works: Call (800) AAA-HELP, and a tow truck will show up to take both you and your car home for free. Be sure to make note of the number now before you go out, so you don't forget it. You do not have to be a member of AAA to use the service. However, depending on demand, the service could get backed up, but AAA said they would let callers know if there is a delay. If you see someone driving drunk, call the Florida Highway Patrol at Star-FHP (*347) to report it. Driving under the influence isn't just dangerous; it's also expensive.
